OBJECTIVE

Michigan Farm Bureau – Legal Internship

 

Are you looking for a challenging and rewarding paid internship opportunity with one of Michigan’s top ranked workplaces? Michigan Farm Bureau is seeking to hire one legal intern in 2025.

 

Our interns will receive hands-on training and support from their managers and company mentors, will support the day-to-day operations of their divisions, and may have the opportunity to work on various project teams.

We’re proud to be a grass-roots organization where members from our 65 county Farm Bureaus have input and influence at the local, state and national levels.

Here's a sampling of the activities Michigan Farm Bureau performs: 

  • Represent members and advocate on behalf of member-adopted policy in the state Legislature and Congress
  • Work with state agencies and industry stakeholders to create new marketing opportunities and/or solve problems that challenge agricultural production and marketing 
  • Keep members abreast of changing environmental regulations and promote proactive environmental stewardship
  • Provide labor and safety training and resources for farm employers and their staff
  • Offer valuable member benefits, ranging from vehicle and hotel discounts to affordable health and dental insurance
  • Help young farmers improve their leadership and business skills
  • Assist teachers in educating students about Michigan agriculture and perform many other activities to raise public understanding and awareness about modern farming
  • Publish Michigan Farm News and other communications products to provide members with helpful and relevant information about timely agricultural topics.

 

RESPONSIBILITIES

The primary focus will be agricultural law and regulatory issues affecting farmers. There will be some work related to insurance policies and compliance.

 

The position offers an opportunity to interact with governmental agencies, industry groups, and businesses and individuals associated with production agriculture.   

 

Collaborate with department staff to contribute on various processes and projects.

 

Undertake special assignments as instructed by department manager.

 

Build relationships with department stakeholders and contribute toward company and department goals.

 

QUALIFICATIONS

Required: must have completed at least two years of law school and be currently enrolled in a Juris Doctor program. However, recent law school graduates waiting for bar exam results are also encouraged to apply. Excellent research and writing skills with a proven track record as an excellent team player. 
Outstanding communication and customer service skills.

An agricultural or insurance backgrounds are helpful but not required.
